Scope and summary
This Privacy Policy explains how Modern Foundry LLC ("Modern Foundry," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Modern Foundry website and the RiffKey application, including its web and installed versions.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use behavioral advertising, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics in the current version of the website or RiffKey.
Information stored on your device
RiffKey may store information locally in your browser or on your device so the app can remember your work and preferences. This may include:
- Selected notes and their order, saved riffs, tempo, string count, tuning, fretboard preferences, sound settings, and other app configuration.
- Settings needed to provide offline or installable-app functionality, including cached application files.
- Riffs or settings you import from a RiffKey QR code or shared RiffKey link.
This information remains under your control on your device and is not transmitted to Modern Foundry. You can remove it by deleting saved items within the app, clearing the site's browser storage, or uninstalling the app. Clearing local storage or uninstalling may permanently delete locally saved work.
Camera and QR sharing
Camera access
If you choose the QR scanning feature, your browser or operating system will ask for camera permission. Camera frames are used on your device to identify a RiffKey QR code. Modern Foundry does not record, store, or receive those images. You may deny or revoke camera permission through your browser or device settings.
QR codes and shared links
A RiffKey QR code or link can contain the musical information needed to recreate a riff, such as notes, their order, tempo, tuning, and string count. Anyone who receives the code or link may be able to open that information. Do not place personal, confidential, or sensitive information in content you share.
The current tuner plays reference tones and does not use your microphone. If a future feature changes how camera, microphone, or other device data is handled, this policy will be updated before that handling is introduced.
Information handled when you visit
Like nearly all websites, our hosting, domain, and security providers may automatically process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the service. This can include an IP address, browser or device type, requested page, timestamp, and security or error logs.
Modern Foundry does not use this technical information to build advertising profiles or track you across unrelated services. Providers may retain limited logs according to their own security, operational, and legal requirements.
If you email us, we receive the address you use and anything you include in the message. We use it to respond, provide support, maintain necessary business records, and protect the service. We do not add support contacts to marketing lists without permission.
Sharing and third-party services
We do not sell or rent personal information. Limited technical information may be handled by service providers that host, secure, distribute, or process purchases for our services. These providers may include Cloudflare, Netlify, Google Play, or their replacements. Their handling is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the public, investigate abuse, or defend the rights and security of Modern Foundry and its services. Because RiffKey's musical data is stored locally, we generally do not possess that content to disclose or recover.
Retention, deletion, and security
Locally stored RiffKey data remains on your device until you delete it, clear site data, or uninstall the app. Support emails and related business records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for support, security, legal compliance, and ordinary business recordkeeping. You may request deletion of information you directly provided to us by emailing the address below, subject to records we must retain by law.
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the limited information we handle. No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
Children, changes, and contact
Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information directly to us, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
We may update this policy as RiffKey or applicable requirements change. The effective date above will be revised when changes are posted. Material changes will be communicated through the website, app, or store listing when appropriate.
